Bio

Obuh Christopher Nelson is a Nigerian photographer and visual artist based in Lagos Nigeria. Using a wide range of mediums in his practice, his works focuses on environmental issues, social issues, colonialism and stories of people who have dedicated their lives fixing problems. His practice and yearning for Knowledge about the continent has seen him travel extensively inside Africa. His works has been published in Notable art magazines like camera Austria, critical intervention, saraba magazine to mention a few.

 In 2019 he was part of a residency at the project space Lagos organised by German Nigerian artist and curator Emeka Udemba. In 2020 he was invited by the Goethe institut to participate in the Project ‘Corona Chronicles of Nigeria’ where he discussed how artists have been dealing with lockdown during the pandemic. His works are in the digital archive of the University of Bournemouth supported by the art and Humanity research council Uk (AHRC). In 2019, he was a finalist of the Access Bank ART X Prize.

He was nominated for the Joop swart masterclass and also shortlisted for the Henrike Grohs Art Prize in 2020. In 2021 he collaborated with Dr David Goss of the Ben Gurion University Israel to co-curate the Exhibition ‘Moving Mountains Moving Oceans’ at the National Museum Lagos. In 2022 he was invited to participate in the exhibition ‘In a pot of hot soup’ an exhibition on the articulations of art and politics in Nigeria at the Brunei Gallery University of London School of Oriental and African studies.

He has featured in Group exhibitions in Lagos, Leiden, Marrakech, Salzburg, London, Munich, Gottingen, Leipzig, Bamako, and Harare. In 2022 he was part of the Asiko art school which was held in Praia Cape Verde.

 He was commissioned by the Goethe institute to do a short film under the New vision reel stories project. His works are in the collection of the University of Bournemouth in the UK, the American Embassy and the Yunus Emre centre both in Abuja.
