Obuh Christopher Nelson is a Nigerian photographer and visual artist based in Lagos Nigeria. Using a wide range of mediums in his practice, his works focuses on environmental issues, social issues, colonialism and stories of people who have dedicated their lives fixing problems.

Artist Statement

Christopher obuh is a photographer and visual artist who works in and out of Lagos Nigeria using the medium of photography, film, and text. As an artist whose work is in constant conversation with the world, he has facilitated a new way of seeing and thinking.

His works focuses on Memory, post colonialism, displacement, urban regeneration borders and environmental justice. He has explored issues of memory in post-colonial African cities and also facilitating learning programs for Artists on the continent, especially in Lagos. His journey on the continent has helped him understand that culture is a travelling phenomenon.

That diversity of culture has helped him understand his place in the world as an artist who weaves stories from one place to the other. He is interested in institutions of knowledge systems and structures that control knowledge, and how it is disseminated. His interventions with community through research and collaborations has exposed problems and caused actions to be taken.
